If you would like hear from a privately-owned company that hopes to make a meaningful business out of podcasting, this interview is for you.

Our guest today is Rick Arturo who is the President of Sonic Mountain. His company recently acquired Odeo which is a popular destination website for podcasts and dot-mp3 files.

While podcasting is fun, there are problems for those of us who create them.

First, is producing them without having to learn an over-abundance of new technical skills. For example, few of us want to learn XML programming and would rather rely upon software tools to generate the code. Sadly, the available ones could use some improvement.

A second is attracting an audience. It seems that everyday I discover another website urging us to join their network. Just filling out the forms is mind numbing and, of course, each requires a new username and password, which ranks with shopping for a hard-to-find gift on Christmas Eve as one of my greatest annoyances.

Third, is finding convenient, reliable, and affordable hosting. If it’s affordable, it’s often not reliable. If it’s reliable, it’s usually not convenient because it requires the user to have considerable technical knowledge and it is also not affordable to most of the 100,000 or so podcasters registered at iTunes.

Finding a company that solves such problems interests me a great deal.
