If you would like to learn about an advertising-supported website with free legal MP3 downloads, this interview is for you.

Our guest today is Peter Rojas who is the Founder of Rcrd Lbl which is a website where you can legally get MP3 music downloads of sponsored artists at no charge. Peter is the founder of other successful Internet businesses including Engadget and WebLogs.

There has been an increasing amount of discussion about how advertising-supported distribution of recorded music over the Internet holds promise to become an important source of revenues for recording artists.  So far the conventional record labels have moved only slowly in this direction. Additionally, the pioneering websites that have tried it, like Spiral Frog, have met with mixed results.

However, Peter Rojas has co-founded a new company named Rcrd Lbl that may well have the right formula.

First, they are paying hard cash advances to artists who have joined them.

Second, they’ve started with an impressive list of advertisers who are already committed, including Virgin America Airline, Nikon, and Puma sneakers.

Third, the music is available in the DRM-free MP3 format. Therefore the tracks will work on the iPod as well as most any other player.

Finally, the ads are unobtrusively imbedded in the download file. They are unobtrusive because they are not audible, but merely images that scroll across the player screen as the song is being played.
