Generating Internet Ad Revenues in Multiple Local Markets

Our guest today is David Bayer who is the President of DataBanqMedia Network. His company operates a family of websites geographically-and-industry-specific to thousands of localities. The websites develop leads for participating retailers in each market. While there are no charges to become a participating merchant, DataBanqMedia generates a fee whenever website visitors pro-actively complete a form thereby becoming a genuine lead for the selected merchant.
Consider the following scenario:
You sell title insurance in the Omaha market and discover that a particular website frequently comes up high in organic Google searches whenever consumers search the string “Omaha, Title, Insurance”. You learn that the website permits you to become a participating title insurance provider at no charge, so you register just to see if you can get any leads.
You’ll have to pay the website for such leads, but they will be good quality ones because the consumer had to pro-actively fill-out an online form to inquire about the services of your company, and not merely title insurance services in general. DataBanqMedia operates the lead-generating website in the above scenario, as they do in a great number of geographically dispersed localities.
One of their secrets is they’ve apparently learned how to make their websites rank high in Google organic (non-sponsored) searches. One technique is to encourage the participants, like the hypothetical title insurance seller above, to publish their own blogs at the website thereby constantly refreshing website information since Mr. Google-Bot is apparently influenced by frequent updates.
Phil’s Take. Nobody seems to have figured-out how to make a profitable Internet business by generating advertising from local merchants and other businesses. DataBanqMedia might well be a pioneer that has cracked the code. However, much remains to be seen since the company has only been operating about 18 months and revenues are still small.
