If you would like to learn how to attract more traffic to your blog, this interview is for you.

Our guest today is Dan Zak who is a reporter with the Washington Post. He recently wrote an article about how bloggers can maximize traffic.
Dan believes that the most important action is to discuss some of the content posted at similar blogs. This will encourage those bloggers to reciprocate by writing about yours. Once two such bloggers have developed a symbiotic relationship, it is natural for them to link to one-another’s websites with buttons on the landing pages.

The second most important point is to be regular in your postings. When new content is added sporadically visitors tend to drift away to websites consistently update. For example, Dan has a blog of his own about movies that he authors anonymously and he tries to post at least once a week.

A third method is the use of widgets. Typically, widgets are small applets that can be useful tools to a visitor. For example, a bank may provide on an online calculator as a widget that appears on your screen whenever you log into your account.

Finally, Dan feels that bloggers should integrate video and audio whenever appropriate. In our analysis, this follows from the Marshall McLuhan principle that “content follows form”. Since the Internet is a multimedia platform, over time its content will tend to integrate all applicable forms.

The interview concludes with general observations about Dan’s views of the Internet as New Media.

Length: This audio interview is about 22 minutes long.
