If you would like to learn how to deliver video programming over the Internet directly to a viewer’s computer, mobile device, or (most importantly) television, this interview is for you. (Part 2 of 2)
Our guest today is Chris Wagner who is the Executive Vice President for NeuLion, Inc. His company provides Internet video delivery services to televisions, computers, or even mobile devices. In Part 1, we focused on the ability of NeuLion to deliver video programming over the Internet to our computers. A primary example is live out-of-market games from the National Hockey League (NHL). Thus, if you moved to Denver from Chicago and maintain a loyalty to your hometown team, you can watch all of the Black Hawk games live on your computer with the exception of those times when the Black Hawks are playing the Avalanche.
Now, in Part 2, our discussion turns to the ability of NeuLion to deliver Internet video directly to the viewer’s television. The service is particularly popular with producers of niche programming. Consider video shows directed at various ethnic groups such as Chinese-Americans, or Indian-Americans.
Imagine if your job moved you to China and consider how much you might like to watch ESPN, ABC, Fox, or other shows that you came to love when living in the States. Presumably a service that could deliver them to your television over the Internet might be of significant interest.
The situation is similar for diverse ethnic groups that have moved from their homelands to the United States. Often there are not enough of them concentrated in a given CATV system’s operating market to justify the allocation of a cable channel.
Similarly, NeuLion is finding significant demand for their services among religious programmers who cannot get satisfactory channel allocations from the CATV operators, or have to pay too much for them.
Length: This video interview is covered in about 12 minutes.
