If you would like to learn about an online tutoring service that uses tutors domiciled in North America, this interview is for you. (Part 1 of 2).

Our guest today is George Cigale who is the CEO of Tutor.com. His company is a competitor to TutorVista, but George’s tutors live in North America, whereas those at TutorVista are typically located in India. Recently we interviewed the CEO of TutorVista which is an online unlimited tutoring service that is available for $100 per month.  Generally, their tutors are located in India.

In contrast, Tutor.com’s tutors are domiciled in North America, but the rates are $25 - $35 per hour. Another differentiating point is that students typically use the Tutor.com service spontaneously, on demand, whereas those at TutorVista more often schedule sessions in advance. At TutorVista student-tutor communications normally uses real time VoiP (audio) and screen interaction, whereas at Tutor.com the interaction is typically on the screen with white-board diagramming and text messaging.

In Part 1 of this interview George will actually demonstrate a live tutoring session. We begin with the log-in process which initiates the spontaneous assignment of a tutor. Thereafter, George presents a geometry problem and we watch as the tutor helps him solve it.

In Part 2 we conclude with general questions about the service and the future of online tutoring.

Length: This video interview is covered in about 17 minutes.

Tutor.com is offering a better signup deal when you use a special code. Their normal offer is $5 for 50 minutes of on-demand online tutoring, but if you use the code GABE you get 75 minutes for only $1. Or, just go to http://www.tutor.com/gabe to have the code automatically loaded for you.

Full Disclosure: I am a software developer for Tutor.com and am sharing a special discount code that was created especially for me to share with others. Please feel free to share this code with your friends as well.
