Podango: Specialists in Podcast Hosting & Promotion
Podcast Video | Posted by Phil Leigh on June 7, 2008
If you would like to learn about a service that will host both the web pages and media files of your podcasts, promote them, and put them in a community of similar shows, all at no charge, this interview is for you.
Subject: Our guest today is Lee Gibbons who is a Co-Founder of Podango. Lee’s company is focused on audio and video podcasting. Podango is a place where you can have your Website hosted along with the media files of your podcasts. The podcasts are delivered over the high-capacity Amazon Web Services network. Podango will also place your show in a community of similar podcasts and permit you to opt-into an advertising revenue sharing arrangement.
Phil’s Take: When I started podcasting years ago, I wish a service like Podango’s was available. I did not know either HTML or XML programming and it was a nightmare to get the hosting company to provide adequate delivery of both the web pages and media files.
Too often the media files were delivered so slowly so that podcasts would take too long to download and the streams at the website were constantly interrupted. The hosting company could only be contacted via email and they would merely respond by saying that the problem was not at their end. Once I was able to prove it was at their end, they responded by agreeing that my server was located in a cluster that had too much traffic. They moved it several times and the situation did not improve.
I told them that I was willing to pay more for better media deliver, but the only option was to run my own server which required technical skills I did not have. Eventually, I had to put the media files elsewhere, but that’s another story and an equally bad one.
For new podcasters, Podango could be a good way to go. For me, however, I have nearly five years of media files in various formats (some proprietary) and don’t want to risk technical glitches by switching at this point.

Unlimited Zune Downloads…
“Microsoft said that its Windows Media Player will recognise Zune content which might make it possible to put the content on a PlaysForSure device. However, it said it would not provide customer support to anyone attempting this.”…
Sorry to learn that PODANGO has since closed down, wish them the best. There are not many podcasting solutions based on Amazon Web Services.
