Interviews with Digital Media Thought Leaders
Putting Advertisements in Your Podcasts
Podcast Audio | Posted by Phil Leigh on August 23, 2007
If you would like to learn how you can put ads in your podcasts, this interview is for you.
Our guest today is Jonathan Cobb the founder and CEO of Kiptronic. His company helps podcasters by providing an easy-to-use ad insertion technology. The platform is particularly well suited for media downloads to devices, such as the iPod, that don’t have browsers.Last year, ad spending totaled $80 million for podcasts and $1.5 billion for online video. By 2011, those numbers are expected to grow to $400 million and $6.2 billion respectively. Kiptronic is well positioned to take advantage of this emerging market.
One reason that the market for online video ads is about twenty times larger than the one for podcasts is that most of the work of decoding the online ad on a computer is done by the browser. However, there are over 100 million iPods in use and they don’t have browsers. This means that ad insertion for podcasts has to be done differently. That’s why the Kiptronic platform is focused on podcasts and media downloads.
Length: This audio interview is about 24 minutes long.

Phil,
There seems to be a server problem with the new audio podcast of yours. Just thought I’d let you know, in case you hadn’t been told. Otherwise, thanks for keeping them up, I always enjoy listening to them over a nice cup of coffee.
If your are referring to the stream from the website, you may have to click on the icon twice. Not a double click, but two clicks in sequence.
If you are referring to podcast from iTunes, I will have to check it later since a routine Microsoft update shut down my regular computer.
