Interviews with Digital Media Thought Leaders
Reducing Reliance on Google AdSense
Podcast Video | Posted by Phil Leigh on June 7, 2007
If you would like to learn how websites can reduce their reliance for advertising revenues upon Google’s AdSense, this interview is for you.
Our guest today is Lance Podell who is the CEO of Seevast Corporation. He competes successfully with Google’s AdSense and AdWords. Seevast has exclusive relationships with prominent websites such as the online edition of The Wall Street Journal. (Part 1 of 2)A common complaint from even some of the most prominent online publishers (i.e. major metropolitan newspapers and local TV stations) is that they are uncomfortable with their dependence upon Google’s AdSense to generate online advertising revenues. They wish that they had more control because if AdSense continues to gain influence then Google may decide to cut back the revenue sharing percentages with the publishers.
Similarly, they express concerns that they are losing influence to upstart ad networks of websites. For example, even though ESPN.com might be the best known brand for sports information, they reach fewer people online than does the sports component of a network called Advertsing.com.
Our guest company today launched an initiative that it thinks will help publishers, like ESPN.com, regain their influence by setting-up a “Publishers Virtual Network”.
