Avoiding Simultaneous Talking During Telephone Interviews (October 10, 2008) Most of our podcasts include telephone interviews. Sometimes it is necessary to move the guest along to the next topic if his answer gets to be too long-winded. Unfortunately, when I interrupt him the two of us are talking simultaneously. The 45-second video below shows you how to cut out one of the voices thereby eliminating the problem.

Getting Podcasts Delivered to Your eMail (September 11, 2008) Many of us still rely upon email as our preferred delivery mechinism for updated information from sources in Cyberspace. Perhaps it is because we first started getting regluar information from selected sources by subscribing to their email commentaries. The one minute video below shows you how to get podcasts sent directly to your email account.

Getting Transcripts of Podcasts (September 4, 2008) It’s great to watch and hear podcasts, but sometimes you might actually want to get a written transcript of the audio. Invigorating Internet Video: (June 17, 2008)  Too much Internet video, whether at YouTube or corporate websites, is merely a talking head. Such monologues normally become boring after a few minutes or less.

One way to invigorate the action is to provide demonstrations. Given the Internet and a computer monitor, it’s possible to access screen demonstrations from anywhere in the World. Today’s tip shows you how to put such demos into your videos.

Recording Phone Conversations to a Computer: (June 10, 2008)  There are two ways to record telephone conversations so that you can later use them as podcasts or webcasts. One is to use VoIP programs like Skype. Unfortunately, the voice quality of IP telephony can sometimes be unacceptable.

If you want to rely upon conventional phone service you’ll need (1) a hardware adapter to connect the telephone to the computer, and (2) recording software. To learn more click on the one-minute video below:

Avioding Spam Filters: (June 5, 2008) Unfortunately, spam filters sometimes reject emails that we want to receive. For example, when we opt-into an email newsletter that alerts us to podcasts we want to see or hear, some of the most popular spam filters like spam assassin will reject them. Therefore, those of us who are composing the email newsletter must exercise care to avoid getting blocked. Click on the video below to pick up a few tips.

Metadata for Pictures: (June 3, 2008) If you are posting pictures to your website it is important to understand that Google cannot look inside those pictures to tell what they are. Thus, you must provide a textual description as metadata to embed within the picture. This enables Google to comprehend what the picture is about and provides a momentary pop-up description to website visitors who “mouse over” the picture. The following ninety second video illustrates how you can do this.

How to use Permalinks: (May 29, 2008) Podcasts and video streams originate from audio and video files posted to Web servers.
