Interviews with Digital Media Thought Leaders
User Customized CRM
Podcast Video | Posted by Phil Leigh on October 23, 2007
If you would like to learn how an ordinary user, without any programming skills, can customize an open source CRM program to his own needs, this interview is for you.
Our guest today is Chris Harrick who is the Senior Director of Product Marketing for Sugar CRM. His company is a leader in open source CRM.
In our last interview with Chris Herrick of Sugar CRM we learned the basics of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Essentially it is a highly evolved form of “Contacts” software (e.g. ACT, Microsoft Outlook) that is deployed on company-owned computers throughout the enterprise. That way no salesperson can take their laptop and “walk out the door” with all of their valuable contacts information should they choose to join a competitor.
Importantly, CRM has evolved to a point where it also provides collaborative capabilities so that individuals from different departments within a given company can work together to acquire new customers and better service existing ones. At Sugar CRM the evolution has advanced to the point where individual users without any programming skills can customize the application for their own needs.
In this interview, Chris will actually demonstrate how a typical user can create a new module for Sugar CRM with nothing more than a mouse and a keyboard for typing-in words to pre-organized forms. As the CRM software industry drives toward maturity, it is thought that such simplified ways of customizing the programs will be essential in keeping the customers involved in expanding their use of the tool.
Length: This video interview is covered in about 12 minutes.
